Curriculum Overview

“Knowledge itself is power." - Sir Francis Bacon

Uffculme Primary School provides children with a broad, balanced, and knowledge-rich curriculum which is underpinned by imaginative and dedicated teaching, encompassing a cohesive and consistent approach towards all aspects of learning. The curriculum is designed to be inclusive, and our aim is to deliver equity in all that we do by responding to pupils’ diverse needs and helping individuals to overcome barriers to learning, so all are afforded the same ambitious curriculum and an equal chance to succeed.

While great emphasis is placed on children learning the core skills of English and Maths, we place a greater value on developing the ‘whole child’ and provide an engaging and purposeful programme of study in all curriculum areas. We believe in delivering a creative and challenging curriculum, where learning is brought to life, both indoors and out, with an emphasis on engaging and purposeful learning.

Uffculme Primary School aims to engage, motivate, and help all children to achieve by:

  • Increasing their knowledge of subject-specific programmes of study

  • Developing their skills as learners

  • Helping them to understand concepts and ideas

  • Ensuring that learning has a context

  • Building worthwhile attitudes

  • Making effective links to make learning cohesive, purposeful, and exciting

  • Providing opportunities to develop literacy skills across the curriculum and wider life of the school, through Reading, Writing, and Oracy

Content of the Curriculum

The curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge and skills around which teachers seek to develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of children’ knowledge, understanding and skills.

However, the taught curriculum is just one element in the education of each child, and we consciously allow time and space in our planning to go beyond the programmes of study for each subject.
